HISTORY

Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami, is a Hindu festival celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, who is believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is observed on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada according to the Hindu lunar calendar.

According to Hindu tradition, Lord Krishna was born in Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva. His birth is celebrated with prayers, devotional songs, fasting and cultural programmes. Devotees often gather at temples and celebrate the occasion at midnight, the traditionally believed time of his birth.
