People welcomed them by lighting rows of oil lamps\, giving rise to the tradition of celebrating the festival with lights. \nDiwali is celebrated by lighting diyas\, decorating homes\, offering prayers\, exchanging sweets and gifts\, and spending time with family and friends. \nSIGNIFICANCE\nDiwali reminds us to choose goodness\, truth and compassion over negativity and darkness.
