Ganesh Chaturthi

HISTORY

Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Ganesha, the deity associated with wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. It is observed on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada according to the Hindu lunar calendar.

The festival is celebrated with great devotion through the installation of beautifully decorated idols of Lord Ganesha in homes and public places. Devotees offer prayers, sweets and flowers, and participate in cultural celebrations. The festival traditionally concludes with the immersion of the idol, known as Ganesh Visarjan.
