National Unity Day

HISTORY

National Unity Day, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, is observed every year on 31 October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding leaders of modern India.

The day was introduced by the Government of India in 2014 to honour Sardar Patel’s remarkable contribution towards bringing the princely states together and strengthening the unity and integrity of the nation. His dedication and leadership played a significant role in shaping a united India.

SIGNIFICANCE

National Unity Day reminds us that the strength of our nation lies in unity, harmony and mutual respect. It encourages citizens, especially young students, to understand the importance of staying united despite differences in language, culture, traditions and beliefs.
